Scariest Bigfoot Story Ever?
Most accounts of bigfoot creatures involve someone seeing an animal cross a road or catching a glimpse peaking at them around a tree in the forest.
Some reports however are downright scary.
In this author’s opinion, the Albert Ostman account from 1924 takes the prize.
Ostman was a prospector in British Columbia and three mornings in a row he awakened to find his campsite disturbed.
According to a 1974 article in the New York Times, one night he was awakened by something picking him up.
“He felt as if he were being tossed on horseback, but he could feel that whatever had picked him up, sleeping bag, knapsack and all, was walking upright. After a lengthy, uncomfortable journey, he was dumped roughly on the ground, and he emerged from the sleeping bag to face four immense, hairy apelike creatures, an apparent family. Two were obviously male, the father and son, and two obviously female, the mother and daughter.”
The harrowing account shows that Ostman was kept with the creatures for nearly a week and they would watch him as if he were some sort of entertainment.
According to the Times, Ostman survived on food from his knapsack and kept waiting for a chance to escape.
“His opportunity finally came one morning when the father of the family grabbed Ostman's snuffbox, swallowed its contents and grew violently ill. In the moments of panic and confusion that followed, Ostman dashed off into the woods.”
The creatures did not pursue.
Ostman kept quiet about his incident until the late 1950s when more reports of similar creatures started popping up.
His report is a classic and is one many early fathers of the bigfoot movement believed.
I read it when I was eight years old and it chilled me to the bone. And when I think about it, it kind of does the same thing now.
