An Eyewitness Bigfoot Encounter in Ohio's Wilderness

In the dense, forested landscapes of Ohio's Ross County, nestled among the deep, rocky ravines and lush greenery, there exists a place known only to a select few as Scarry Hollow. This land, a patchwork of dense trees, large hills, and tranquil ponds, has for years been the backdrop of whispered tales and local legends.

The year was 2002, a year etched in the memory of an experienced outdoorsman, who, for years, had traversed the Pike and Ross county areas with his bow in hand. It was the 7th of September, a time when the fall colors began painting the landscape with their vibrant hues. Near Lake Jackson, southeast of Waverly, along the less-traveled roads of OH-335, our eyewitness and his friends set up camp beside an old gravel pit, a place surrounded by high cliffs and serene ponds.

As night fell, a peculiar scent drifted across the campsite, a mix of wet dog and skunk, emanating from across the small pond. Armed and cautious of feral dogs, our eyewitness and his best friend ventured towards the source. Halfway across a small dike connecting the two sides of the pond, they were halted by a series of deep, menacing growls emanating from the treeline. Suddenly, bushes and medium-sized trees began to shake violently, an unmistakable warning to retreat. Heeding this advice, they quickly returned to the safety of their camp.

The night was restless, filled with soft moans, distant howls, and the occasional hurling of rocks and tree limbs across the pond towards their camp. In the light of dawn, the two men, armed and determined, scoured the area across the pond. Despite their tracking skills, they found no signs, no tracks, nothing to indicate the presence of any known animal.

Over the years, our eyewitness returned to this mysterious place, each visit accompanied by an intense feeling of being watched, sometimes so strong that it made his hair stand on end. He avoided certain hollows, especially one that always seemed to radiate a sense of imminent danger.

This area, with its deep hollows ranging from 25 to 900 feet, stretching into West Virginia and parts of Pennsylvania, presented a labyrinthine world where one could traverse state to state, hidden from the sunlight. Locals, many of whom shared similar experiences, spoke in hushed tones of the eerie howls and screams that filled the night.

The bottom of these hollows, deprived of sunlight, were carpeted with dead leaves and permeated with musty odors. Whenever our eyewitness ventured into these hollows, his instincts screamed at him, a primal warning of danger lurking in the unseen.

The tales of Scarry Hollow were not limited to our eyewitness. Many locals had their stories, though they often remained silent, fearing ridicule. These tales, passed down through generations, spoke of ghostly sounds and strange occurrences, particularly around Jackson Lake.

Jeremy Caldwell, a BFRO Investigator who grew up in the county, confirmed the uniqueness of the area. Its terrain, with deep ravines, fresh water streams, and an unexpected sand dune, painted a picture of a land out of place in southeast Ohio. Jeremy, familiar with the wildlife of the Appalachian foothills, found no reason to discredit these accounts. The behaviors and sounds reported were consistent with what many believe to be sasquatch intimidation tactics.

And so, Scarry Hollow remains a place of intrigue and unease, a testament to the untamed and unexplored mysteries that still lurk in the wild corners of our world. For our eyewitness, now residing in Wyoming, the memories of those Ohio woods, with their unspoken secrets and nocturnal serenades, continue to haunt his dreams.
